Dr Harry Sims has completed further training to provide Mandibular Advancement Devices. A mandibular advancement splint can be used to treat snoring and mild to moderate sleep apnoea. These appliances work by preventing closure of the airway by holding the lower jaw in a stable position.
The treatment provided by Dr Harry Sims is Sleepwell. Sleepwell is a gold-standard treatment for snoring. It is a clinically-proven splint for snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea.
What is Sleepwell?
Sleepwell is a dental appliance is worn while you sleep and effectively stops or reduces snoring.
It is a two-piece design, that fits over both the upper and lower jaw to prevent the closure of the airway by holding the lower jaw in a forward position.
What is Snoring?
Snoring is more than just a disruptive noise at night. Simple snoring, as it is known, is caused by the partial closure of the upper airway during sleep. The resultant reduction in airflow is what causes the snoring sound, as the soft tissues at the back of the throat vibrate
How do I Begin Treatment?
You will need to book an initial appointment with Dr Harry Sims to diagnose your condition and have your impressions taken.
You will be asked to complete a pre-screening questionnaire that will help to identify the severity of your snoring.
Does Sleepwell Work?
Mandibular Advancement Devices in general are recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for treatment of snoring and mild OSA.

The Sleepwell is the most clinically proven MAS for the treatment of snoring and mild to moderate OSA. It is the most patient friendly MAS on the market with high levels of patient comfort.
What is Obstructive Sleep Apnoea?
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is caused by the repeated collapsing of the airway during sleep, resulting in complete (apnoea) or partial (hypopnoea) obstruction of the airflow for 10 seconds or more.
To a bed partner, these episodes can be identified as the sufferer stopping breathing during the night, often waking themselves up with a snort or gasp.
Left untreated, these regular disruptions to sleep can lead to serious consequences for the sufferer – and their bed partner - including: increased blood pressure, heightened risk of cardiovascular disease, strokes, diabetes and excessive daytime sleepiness.
